2007년1월11일자에 릴리스된 모 리서치 기관의 리포트에 이런 말이 나와 있다.
 


Retail sites miss on task flow and don't expose subcategories. 
Exposing second-level menus starting on the home page makes users aware of what's on the site, shows how information is organized, and helps user choose better paths by clarifying the meaning of top-level menus. But 61% of the retail sites we evaluated failed to show subcategory links on the home page. Like financial services sites, inefficient task flow was a frequently failed test among retailers. In the same way that fixing this problem can improve completion rates for account applications, it can also drive better results for processes related to sales.


결국 유저를 중심에 놓지 않고 비즈니스를 하는 retail site가 많다는 의미가 아닌가 싶다...
그만큼 user-centric해지기가 어려운거라는 의미일거다. 또한 Human-Information-Interaction 개념이 online retail industry에 아직 희박하다는 의미도 있을거고..
